Do you have a pair of “resolution sneakers” that were bought with the best of intentions to work out every day, but have failed to see the outside of the shoe box? Do you’re children have a closet floor filled with shoes that were hardly worn but definitely outgrown? If you answered yes to either of these questions, we’ve got the simple solution for you. Bring those new and gently worn soles to us at AR&C Self Storage, and we’ll donate them to Shoes 2 Share. In case you haven’t heard of them, Shoes 2 Share is a non-profit organization that takes unwanted shoes and distributes them to men, women and children in need of the simple pleasure that many of us take for granted – foot protection. This organization describes themselves as:“…a grassroots, charitable ministry with a passion to serve. We seek to make life more comfortable around the world, for children & their families, through the donations of “new & like new” shoes in any shape, size, or condition.”Shoes 2 Share began when Tim and Rhonda Wampler travelled to Haiti to adopt their two youngest children. During the months they spent in the country, they observed firsthand why this nation had been labeled the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. They were amazed at how few children had the most basic of essentials – shoes. As the traveled back and forth from the U.S. to Haiti, they began bringing suitcases filled to the brim with shoes, to be distributed to the children of Haiti. A simple gift of shoes meant that these children could attend school, play sports, go to church and most importantly, protect their feet. This simple observation of need has blossomed into an international organization that strives to make life a little easier for others. It’s amazing how many doors of opportunity can be opened to a child, or his or her parents, when given a basic gift of footwear. So, the next time you open your closet door and are bombarded by the endless array of shoes, think about which ones you wouldn’t mind seeing on another person’s feet. Out staff at AR&C Self Storage find this practice to be good for the soul – both yours and theirs.
